This book is an attempt to bring together what is known about the evolution of Bute Park, from boggy farmland to private pleasure gardens and eventually a magnificent people’s park.

When John Speed drew his well-known map of Cardiff in 1610 Bute Park was then largely very poor and wet farmland, with a scattering of small industries; it would be many years until it was bought up and transformed into a private park, and many more until it was developed into the beautiful setting that we know today.

We have researched the park history as thoroughly as we are able; hopefully it is a relatively accurate portrayal - and an enjoyable and informative read. There are 64 pages, lovingly designed, and printed full colour throughout on high quality FSC certified paper.by a long-established local printing company.

The sale of each book will contribute towards giving the park additional value through the provision of activities, volunteering opportunities and improved access.
